Introduction
One of my primary goals as an educator is to help students to develop intercultural competence. The knowledge, empathy and skills students develop from this competence will students engage in making the world more socially just. I have the opportunity as an educator to create learning experiences which allow students to develop the knowledge, empathy and skills that will result in such competence. I have been fortunate in my career to be a part of many learning experiences designed to develop such competence, but none has been more meaningful to me than the Civil Rights Pilgrimage trip I lead and the Women of the Civil Rights Movement Course I teach.
The picture here shows me with my neighbors, the Yang family, at a Hmong Heritage month celebration. My dear friend Mai Nouha and her grandmother taught me about the history of their traditional dress and helped me to learn how to wear these beautiful garments appropriately. Creating opportunities like this for my students to learn about one another is so rewarding.
The opportunity to enhance this course through a thorough review using the Conquering the Content text in my eLearning Course taught by Dr. Susan Manning has been a very meaningful experience for me. The following pages will highlight the work I have done in the course using the corresponding headings:

Taking 110 students on a ten-day trip to sites of historical significance in the civil rights movement is no small undertaking. But it is a true honor to be a part of the learning of these students. I want to maximize the learning of these students because I hope they become change agents to make our world more socially just in the future. This course was a wonderful opportunity for me to deconstruct every element of my course (and the learning that takes place on the trip for students not enrolled in my course) so that I can be more intentional and create even more substantial learning.
Getting Started
The first activity of the course was to begin thinking about the course and how it could be developed into an online course. My thoughts are indicated below in Form 3.
